Common questions
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
No. Your files are processed entirely in your browser. They are not uploaded to Filecraft servers in normal flows.
How does image compression work?
Your image is decoded in your browser and re-encoded at a lower quality setting. This reduces file size while preserving the original dimensions. No server is involved.
Can I compress PNG images?
PNG is a lossless format. Re-encoding a PNG as PNG does not reduce quality and may not significantly reduce file size. For meaningful size reduction, you can select JPEG or WebP as the output format, but note that JPEG does not support transparency.
What happens to transparent areas when saving as JPEG?
JPEG does not support transparency. If you choose JPEG as the output format for a transparent image, transparent regions are filled with a white background.
Is the original image metadata (EXIF, GPS, copyright) preserved?
No. The tool re-encodes the image using browser canvas APIs, which produce a freshly encoded output without the original metadata.
What if the compressed file is larger than the original?
This can happen when the source image is already well-optimized. The tool will clearly show both file sizes so you can decide whether to use the result.
Is there a file size limit?
On the Free plan, files can be up to 10 MB. Pro and higher plans support up to 100 MB.
Can I save the result to OneDrive or SharePoint?
Yes, on Pro and higher plans. The file is uploaded directly from your browser to your cloud storage — not through our servers.
